“The Art of Dance”, what a brilliant event… I could not have predicted the fun time we all shared at Pinot and Picasso on Wednesday, July 22! Pinot and Picasso is a new little art studio/teaching space on the edge of Montrose and Midtown. I truly didn’t know what to expect or how the turnout would be for our first Dance Houston wine and painting gathering/fundraiser.
My partner and I had no trouble finding the art spot we would soon learn would become a new guilty pleasure… we
walked in and people greeted us like we were long time friends, the space was clean and inviting… wine was being chilled and hiding away in a corner of the P&P studio was the Owner of Avant Catering, working away at making edible art that would soon find its way to my ever so hungry stomach. I first said ‘howdy” to the few folks that had arrived early to enjoy the complimentary wine donated by BevCo international; which, by the way, was YUMMY and screamed shazam as I took the first sip of cabernet… after a long day at the office that’s exactly what my fun meter needed!
The easels were prepped and the aprons were ready to inspire… and inspire they did.
People started arriving at 7 and after a little mingle, wine and OMG the most delicious quesadillas (tortillas looked as if

Avant Catering
they were your traditional flour tortillas, WRONG, they were made of rice!) the soon to be master artist found their way to their stools. Speaking for myself, I prayed for a paint by color model that would be fool proof and would keep me from creating a painting rendition of that famous ashtray/coaster/paperweight/plate thing I made for my mother when I was 6 years old… Our host artist was delightful and put everyone at ease… I could see that everyone was anxious and excited to get started. With our magic brushes similar to that of Harry Potter wand, we followed the direction of our Host Artist and began the experience of our paintbrushes dancing against the canvases as we created our individual version of a modern abstract painting of motion, form and dance…

The studio was truly a place to escape and experience a true form of dance… I stood back and watched everyone dancing with their hands as they elegantly moved their brushes against their canvases. I don’t know if it was the wine, the scrumptious food, the Michael Jackson music playing in background or the magic the P&P owners create, but it was a time I will soon not forget…
BTW, Dance Houston will continue to host this fundraiser in the upcoming months… thanks for reading about my experience… By the way, my painting did not turn out to be an ashtray; it now proudly hangs in my kitchen alongside my partners modified version of our dancing dog…
